A Note about Commitment: Please read the section on Program Information before completing the application. You should contact the Directors of the HEAL Internship if you have any questions about any of the program's commitments. Keep in mind that the commitment to the HEAL Internship includes: trip preparation, possible project preparation before the internship begins, and spending five mornings per week at the Roatán Volunteer Pediatric Clinic as well as 15 hours per week working with local community health workers for the duration of the internship. Funding: Each intern is responsible for his/her own funding. Costs of the internship include: housing, transportation, food, and health services (see below). The Directors will help you plan your trip and brainstorm ways to keep costs to a minimum. Health: Each intern must purchase an air medical evacuation membership through MedjetAssist. A special Global Healing rate is available. We also recommend that each intern consult a professional health care provider prior to departure for any vaccinations and prophylactic treatment, including antimalarial medication, that he/she might need. Each intern is responsible for his/her own health considerations. As facilitators of the HEAL Internship, we take no responsibility for the health of each intern before, during, or after the internship and recommend that each intern plan ahead to ensure that proper precautions are taken. Application Deadlines Be sure to understand our program guidelines and requirements before you apply.
Note: For the summer, there are defined one-month long sessions (with appropriate overlap with preceding and succeeding interns for training purposes). For internships during the Academic Year, Interns should specify their proposed dates as there are no defined sessions during the school year (Sept-May). Academic Year internships last between 1 month and 3 months. Application Downloads |
